Cause Premature Aging
The article "Free radicals cause premature aging" published in this blog as a bit of information about what is radical is that? and explanation of the causes of premature aging that often we are questioning. And a knowledge also that the premature aging caused by free radicals can not be avoided, also discussed about the benefits of antioxidants in the body can inhibit premature aging. To continuation please see below.
Being old is a natural process of all living creatures. Many conditions can cause faster aging process occurs. one of them is free radicals.
Note the photo we infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood today. Imagine the state of 10, 20 and 30 years, after we become grandmother or grandfather. Naturally, the body condition will decline with age. There three main factors that affect the body's aging process, or known as aging.
First, when the get older, the number of errors caused by increased reproductive cells. Body forms new cells, but the newly formed cells are not functioning for the body. The more advanced ages, the percentage of body cells do not function the numbers a lot. Under certain conditions, these cells do not function even interfere with normal cellular processes.
Second, the aging process is associated with cell damage that causes the shortening of the DNA. This process is called apoptosis eventually trigger programmed cell death. With passes of time, a healthy increase in DNA damage causes accelerated cell death, while the body can not produce fast enough cells to replace dead cells.
Third, the natural aging process involves a decrease in the function and quality of oxidative enzymes in the body, such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione perxoidase. As a result, the body is less potent antioxidant defense against free radicals.
Oxidative Stress
According to Prof. Dr. dr. Wimpie Pangkahila, SpAnd, FAACS, the aging process is associated with a decline of organ function and structure. The underlying theory is the theory of oxidative stress. This theory states that the aging process will occur more quickly, in case of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is defined as a condition, in which the amount of antioxidants in the body are not sufficient in number to neutralize or prevent the interaction between free radicals with a target cell or molecule.
Free radicals are atoms or molecules that have unpaired electrons in the outermost orbit. Derived free radicals from the body, as a result of metabolism or as a result of exposure to the environment. Unpaired electrons, creating free radicals are reactive and damaging the cell membrane. enzymes, molecules of fat, protein and DNA of the cells of our body.
So that free radicals are not rampant, auto body produces antioxidants. Antioxidants are produced in the form of three enzymes, namely superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH Px), catalase, and non enzyme glutathione is a small protein compounds. The third enzyme glutathione which is a compound of small protein it works to neutralize free radicals.
When young, the body's natural antioxidant amount sufficient to fight the free radicals that attack. when the body is aging, antioxidant defense system becomes less efficient due to lower oxidative enzymes. Consequently, when the free radicals in the body in action, there are only two possibilities. The cells die or mutate into cancer cells. "If the cell damage occurs on a wide scale, would cause damage to organs and even the network level." said Prof. Wimpie in a seminar.
Source of Free Radicals
Free radicals closely related to daily life naturally, free radicals appear as a consequence of the body's metabolism. Living creatures, including humans, produce free radicals as byproducts of the process of formation of energy.
Energy itself is derived from metabolic processes by oxidizing (burning) of nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Substances are then converted into energy or adenosine compounds fastener Triphospat (ATP) through metabolic processes with the help of oxygen. In the oxidation process, free radicals participate reproduced.
Besides produced naturally by the body, without realizing it every time we are exposed to free radicals from the external environment. These substances include results from any normal cells that use oxygen, air pollution from cigarette smoke to a motor vehicle, ionic radiation, ultraviolet radiation, as well as fatty foods. In short, free radicals are always scattered everywhere.
